Sure, 187 is fine. Wish they had had sunburst when they first came out.
As far as I know the sunburst models were only included as part of a "pack" with an amp, a strap, a lead, etc. Candy Apple Red, Silver, or Black were the available colours for the bass on its own. As far as I know that's still the case.

The 240usd is not a bad price comparing to just the bass retail. But the deals from this past January where the (non sunburst) jag SS's were under 130usd shipped...
Wouldn't mind getting a sunburst and replacing the fretboard with a slab of unlined ebony.
I haven't checked into it but I seem to recall at one time that Squier Affinity basses that were sold as part of a starter pack (amp, bag and bass) had a different body wood than the Squier Affinity basses that were sold as stand alone units.
I don't know if that's good or bad or if it's even true but might be worth looking into when deciding on one vs the other.
A couple of pages back someone reported that they'd tried both flavours of Jag SS in a store and "the solid black display model was quite a bit heavier!?!? Apparently there is a good deal of weight variation."
There is, even with the original ones. Mine didn't have much, if any, neck dive and once I replaced the bridge hardware it was gone. Even putting a Hipshot Detuner on it didn't change that.
The SS Jaguar pack is definitely the VM, not an Affinity. The body is agathis, not alder. I got one early this year and lightly modded it:
Room for another member ? I love this little bass, but i had a big problem with the weight distribution. Neck diving badly. I had to make a plan and after a few weeks and some digging here on the forum, i did a bit of surgery and now there is a scar, but the balance is perfect. I installed 1.2Kg's worth of ideal steel into the body. I guess i could make it a perfect finish, but i'm ok with ugly. Life i guess.
I've got a black and a red Jag SS (as well as 6 other short scales), and the black Jag is by far the lightest.
A real featherweight.
So I'd say, yes, there's probably a lot of weight variation.
I've tried the black one, and yes it's lighter than my candy apple red Jag.
By the way, I'm thinking to give it a new paint from fender colorways.
Which one is the better? Surf green or foam green?
But I'm thinking about the sonic blue or daphne blue too..
Or maybe Sherwood Green just like Johnny Marr's signature Jaguar

but I stopped sleeping with good looking bass guitars when I joined the Air Force. "Scandal in the barracks" and all that. I'm happily married to the same lady for 25 1/2 years now (and a 1973 Honorable Discharge from the USAF, so they got over it) and I was using the word mistress on this site in the 19th century context, as in Judge Roy Bean was obsessed with Mistress Lily Langtree, President Grover Cleveland's youngest daughter Mistress Ruth Cleveland is the alleged namesake of the Baby Ruth candy bar, Mistress Paris Hilton has a new Signature Stratocaster being marketed as Paris Hilton's Tunafish Sandwich with Red Onions on Pumpernickle, etc. Mistress Paris Hilton is not 19th century, but you get the idea.Thank you for your comment on my bonnie lassie Mistress Jaguar, in any case. She has her own (case) and is napping in it right this very minute as I type. On a side note, my wife was born and raised in Mexico and she is delighted I got a Jaguar, or HAW-gwar as she calls it. As you may know, it was an animal sacred to the pre-Columbian Indian nations of Mexico, and the Aztecs even had a warrior class of them. Jaguars, I mean. Basses got to Mexico later, with Cortez. Maybe you should come over and see our slides of pyramid and temple carvings in the Yucatan some night? Lots of carved jaguars. Only takes about four or five hours to see them all if we move quickly and nobody asks a lot of fool questions. Let me know.
Anyway, I was kind of stunned to find a Squire Jaguire SS bass in sunburst at all, especially one I could afford, $299 USD for the Jaguar Bass SS Pack at Musician's Friend, the online merchant, which as everyone but me probably already knows, is to Guitar Center what Tonto is to the Lone Ranger, except one is musical instrument retail partners and the other is fictonal law enforcement partners in the Old West. I've seen the same pack deal for the same price at several other online retailers, (including listings on eBay in the U.K., but crikey! the shipping to the former colonies here in North America is prohibitive). The pack comes in a very large box my UPS man had trouble getting his arms around, by the way. Which is saying a lot. He's a large, strong man himself.
Although a very nice one comes in the pack box, I do not personally use gig bags, its against my religion to use gig bags (don't ask), and I once again was stunned to stumble across something I was looking for in the same moment of space and time, which was a wooden-Tolex hard case advertised "for the Squire Jaguar Short Scale bass." Jeepers! I think my rabbit's foot has been clocking some over time! It was from Barry Clark Music in Tomah, Wisconsin, through their eBay store listing for about $90 including shipping. Fits. Like. A. Glove. (Photo below) Almost like it was intentional, (and I guess it was): somebody designed and built a nice-looking, sturdy, hard case to serve the Squire Jaguar Short Scale market which has cried out for one. The cries have been heard. Or at least my cry was heard. THE DINGOES TOOK MY BABY! (Meryl Streep, "A Cry in the Dark." Ask an Aussie.)
Slinger, your account of the sunburst being only available in a pack is also my experience. Apparently the entire supply of the sunburst SS Jags (says Indonesia on the back of the headstock) is dedicated to a slot in these packs. I guess it's true what my grandpap said, "The root of all evil is not the love of money but marketing." In this case or in any other, I'm very pleased with my Mistress HAW-gwar.
P.S. An old-fashioned tag was hanging from a tuner when I got her out of the box first time. It was stamped January, 2015 in green ink. Looked factory-ish. I assumed this is date of manufacture. That means nearly two years from the factory into a customer's (my) hands. For whatever that is worth. Maybe nothing. It is curious that sunbursts are not sold as stand alone instruments like the black, red, and silver models. Marketing. <hoch tooey!>

I like that pickguard--a lot! Very, very nice. Tortoise and sunburst just naturally go together, or so I think. As it happens I ordered a red tortoise pickguard for my Squire Jaguar Short Scale on Monday, due here in three more days. The picture of yours you posted validates what I thought. Thanks for confirming my decision on this mod!
Just wanted to share an obvious but often overlooked tip, i did this with my SS Squier mw mustang bass with great results and will be doing the same with my Jaguar ss. Anyhow i was finding the E string a little flabby sounding and was having some trouble with the E string rattling from hitting the frets if i used any more than a light touch. I had already moved up to a .105 E string and was still having the issues, last night i put a .110 E string on expecting a miniscule improvement and bam no more rattle, the E felt tight and sounded good. Probably worth noting is that this was a Rotosound .110 and Rotos are known for being a little stiffer than most strings
