I'm really thinking of picking up one. The price is reasonable, the build quality of Squiers are way above their price range, and I dig the looks of them. To me they look like what a Jazz Bass would have looked like had Leo designed and built them in 1954 instead of 1960. 1954 also happens to be my birth year as well. I like the butterscotch blonde, looks more authentic. Squier Paranormal Jazz Bass '54 Electric Bass - Butterscotch Blonde
It look like Mikedirnt P in Jazz bass configuration. I believe the bass has more paranormal selling points if FMIC make it in 3 jazz pups configuration. The weird of the weird.....
I like it! Wish they'd used a Tele headstock. Also two tone 'burst with a white guard would have been nice and period correct.
NOW I'VE DONE IT . . . . . clicked on that link, and now I will be buried in Sweetwater popups, ads, what was I thinking ?!?!?!?!? Sheesh . . . . . .
Nothing to get excited about for me. It's just a stack knob J with a different shaped pickguard and control plate. Very into the Cyclone II, though. I've wanted one since the 90's. Would have already ordered one if they had it in red with the white stripe like the OG ones.
I agree! They're calling it Paranormal Series already, so just go all out with the weirdness. Gimme a Meteora bass with EMGs, 3 pickup Jazz Bass, Stanley Clarke's Short Scale Strat bass...And those aren't even that weird.
Paranormal Jazz Bass- I misunderstood the premise. I thought that if the Bass didn’t like the music that you were playing on it, it would throw itself across the room and smash itself to pieces. No, actually, I kinda like it. A nice mashup if you ever find yourself gigging in a Rush/Conway Twitty Tribute Band.
The Cyclone was one cool guitar. Of the new ones it was the offset Tele in natural that caught my eye. I’d probably mod it for a Bill Lawrence 5-way switching scheme. Lots of fun things you can do with a Tele. But that’s me.
Once again- fender's innovation is using a couple of stock pieces (pickguard & control plate this time) from another model and labeling with a new name. No thanks.
The HMV is more like J /MM like configuration. The trio pup I mention are kind like Ibanez Jet bass JTK B300 type.
I'm not sure what to think to be honest. I can't help feeling that FMIC just took the butterscotch Jackson X Series Concert Bass and made some minor J-bass related tweaks to it (or to an old P-bass for that matter). I would probably have like the Squier more if this one didn't already exist in another Fender owned brand. I just get the feeling that they designed all these, quirky cool Paranormal series guitars and then threw in a Jackson/old P-bass lookalike as an afterthough, just to have a bass in the series. I'm sure it's a really nice bass for the money but it's just not quite "paranormal" enough for me. I had expected something a bit more original and much, MUCH quirkier. Old P-bass looks with J-pickups... Hardly the Twilight Zone. As always YMMV.
