Hi, I know i made a thread about Mim jazz basses, but those seem out of my reach Any thoughts on the squire vintage modified? (Not 70's, those are too heavy!) It is nice and light, but any other thoughts? It is a lot more in my budget, within reach ^ Thanks all ^
I had one for a little while and it was great for the price. Mine had some neck issues which ultimately led to my getting rid of it. As always, don't buy any instrument unless it has "it". You'll know when you pick it up.
I have a couple of VMs (fretless jazz & passive jaguar) both I like very much. If you use the search function, there are many many many threads discussing the Squier VMs
The VM is an awesome bass, and as you've discovered, some are very heavy. But there are also light ones out there. The weight is all over the board. Try to pick a few up and find one you like.
I had the VM Jaguar - Long scale passive. Very nice for the price. The VM Jazz bass seems to always get good reviews. As others have stated, you should try before you buy.
I have a 2013 VM fretless Jazz - It compares nicely to Fenders other offerings. Everytime I played one, I thought they were good quality - and after playing it now for 6 months, it stays in tune well, has the DD pups, and original fender rw strings. I'm replacing them with flats, but I liked 'em. Def try first.
I loved the look and sound of the 70s vm, but it was ways too heavy The non - 70s vm was ok, but not great other than for slap in my opinion i loved the plain maple neck on the far too if that helps anyone ^
VM LPB P/J here. Jaco burp from the bridge pickup and really light too. It was cheap enough so I rolled the fretboard and fitted an old vintage Fender bridge which widened the string spacing and increased the sustain. Could'nt be happier.
