I have a Squier Vintage Modified Precision V - one split PU and maple board - and it's an excellent bass for the money (namely: tone and playability). I have upgraded the bridge and the pots. Some owners have swapped the PU for the Fender Am. Standard PU, with no obvious benefit.
It's currently the most played one out of my 7 basses (Fender, Sire, G&L, incl. three 5-ers).
