It's been in the case for a few weeks. I pull it out for some play time and suddenly the #4 coil closest to the neck isn't producing any signal in any of the switch positions that use it. What happened? Can a pickup just fail like that? The switch is a little poppy now too. Bad switch maybe?
Not sure what happened to your bass, but anything is possible. Call Ernie Ball Customer service 1-866-823-2255 They are very helpful and will take care of you.
My guess is that it is a wire that came off or a switch issue, but it is possible that the pickup is the problem.
Well, the customer service guys want me to send it to them. Fortunately it's under warranty so all I'll be out is the shipping. I'll post the findings if anyone is interested.
So, the bass arrives at the factory safe and sound. The tech calls me and says he can't find anything wrong. He A/B's it with a known good one and no difference. I'm stumped, I certainly didn't risk my bass to a trip with UPS gorillas for no reason. I asked him to check for any loose connections or bad solder joints before he sends it back. I get it back and sure enough it's a-ok now. I'm thinking its something intermittent in the switch. I guess I'll have to wait for it to happen again.
