The cabinet is the same, the bass guitar is the same. The microphone is in the exact same position for both takes.
The only thing that changed was the amp. One is Solid State & the other is all Tube.

    the test is flawed

These "tests" may be better if you were playing a groove instead of just randomly hitting notes and a few power chords.

Yes, please. Certainly you know how to play some kind of groove or tune by now.

    The tube amp is A.

I voted A, allthough there wasn't a big difference, IMO.

    lol. Musical elite. That's adorable.

Just a steady 1/8 or 1/4 note, even hanging on one note would suffice. Something to allow the ears to listen to the sound without being distracted by the randomness. Not asking for Claypool or Geddy, just a steady groove or pulse to really hear the difference between the takes.

Guess that makes me an elitist.

I'm saying B because everyone else is saying A.

How is a "groove" different from playing individual notes or chords? This isn't a test of my rhythm.

I did intentionally hang on the C at the end of the scale.

Not to offend anyone, but talk and action are different things really. Post a sample of what you want. Content or not an effort was made by someone. I think it would be great if the collective "we" came up with a sample standard for these posts. Sure might help eliminate "backseat" posts? Just an idea, better than "Hey what you're doing is not any good" JIMHO.

Edit: I really don't care to call out one person so post quote deleted.

I'm used to it by now. Last time someone said there's no way I should expect to be taken seriously. So, this time I sat down with a case of beer right after I posted this.

Too much distortion, it's not a groove. Maybe the volume was too high. I'm sure there's something else wrong.

I thought about using the first bars of Anesthesia (Cliff Burton), but then decided I would catch more flack for not nailing it, because I can't. I could have done it slowly, then I figured that's not much different from playing a scale.

I had been using the intro from "Sunshine of Your Love", but I heard it on the radio yesterday & realized I was doing it wrong.

Yep, but I said nothing ;). You were not doing an audition for a band, just equipment sample sounds.

I wonder what "Nobody" would have to say about all of this?

    I vote for A.

    Fair enough.

Sticking with my vote of the tube amp being A.

I guess I had better take a listen before it is revealed.

    Okay A tube.

At least they sound a little more alike than when I tried this with the Aguilar.
