staining my body

    ...my bass' body, not mine. I just bought a paint grade unfinished alder body and I would like it to be stained blue with a shiny finish. I'm just using a pic of a valenti as an example for what I'd like the finish to look like. Now I don't know a lot about staining, but I've heard it's recommended that you mix the stain with your coating to keep the color fairly even. Other than that, I'm not sure what to use, where to get it, the procedure etc. I'd like to keep my spending as low as possible (imagine that).

    To make colored stains in the past I have always watered down a water base paint or thinned an oil base paint. Apply it to ANOTHER piece of wood BEFORE it touches your bass to check for color.
