Well it's finally available, just not through Fender. Stanley Clarke releases long-awaited Strat-style bass, the Spellcaster | Guitar World Spellcaster Bass | Oneonta Guitar {} $1635 + $200 flat rate shipping and then sales tax, total is around 2 grand. I don't know where the $200 shipping comes from. I just shipped a bass this morning in a gig bag and double boxed using boxes from Sweetwater for 69 bucks, UPS ground, dimensions were 52 x 19 x 8, weight 25 lbs, and insured for $500, from Alabama to West Virginia. And who is Oneonta Guitars?
I was kind of wondering what happened to this. I expect that viewers of Clarke's YouTube show will soon hear more about it.
Looks really nice. However, a 3TSB finish does, indeed, require a tort pickguard (that is the only way to do tort, IMO).
I just paid $150 for a bass in a hsc in a box from California to Pa using FedEx Length of box makes shipping jump. I just noticed 25 frets!
“the most advanced evolution in electric bass” Oh, look. A flying pig. Besides, it's aesthetically unpleasing to my eyes.
that's excluding taxes, so it's even higher than $1835, 4% for my state, adds another 75 bucks to the bill
Too many dobs and knials, I'd get so confused just trying to choose a pickup, or combination thereof,
Ehh... That's not too far off from a Fender Mod Shop bass. The luthier who is involved is pretty high-end, and worked with Doug Irwin. Most of his instruments are apparently in the $6,000 - $8,000 range. He apparently helped work on and sells a replica (that he doesn't want to call a replica) of Jerry Garcia's "Tiger" guitar... for $32,000. At that price point, I'm sure these are not hand-built by Lieber, and it doesn't say where they are built -- they could easily be made in Indonesia, with US QC. But for a small company, if the quality is there, then it's not all that outrageous of a price.
