Just a quick mention for this CD - with the Japanese pianist Hiromi and Lenny White.

It's a real return to "proper" Jazz for Stan!!

I really like this album - nice tunes, good interplay and wonderful bass sound. If you get the chance - listen to "Some day my Prince will come" - beautiful playing of the head on bass with amazing impressionistic piano chords!

Some real Jazz standards as well like Solar and a 7/8 "Under the Bridge" for contrast.

I love the way you can really hear the bass and how melodically Stanley Clarke plays, given his fusion/hi octane past...?

It surprised me and I'd love to see them do this live...?

Not really a return. Standards (2006), with Patrice Rushen and Ndugu would interest you as well. There was a tour, with White on drums when I saw them. Imo, Rushen stole the show.

There was a long interview in Uk Jazzwise magazine where Stanley mentioned that this wasn't really his album and he didn't choose the tunes or arrange them etc.

He said that Jazz in the Garden was his first acoustic Jazz trio album under his own name.

In the interview he explained how it was Ndugu's album and he did it as favour and was then suprised/slightly annoyed to see his name given such prominence...?
