Star Wars Kid (Ghyslain Raza) is filing a law suit against the four boys who allegedly stole the infamous video of his sabre-twirling expertise and posted it on the net: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3095385.stm
Why not? His dumb-assed classmates did that solely to try and humiliate the poor kid. Serves them right. I hope he wins the case, and those chumps learn their lesson.
obviously you dont know the story... he got a freakin ibook (thats a laptop for all you pc peoples) and a ipod free, not to mention countless other stuff. he is being greedy and selfish now, and that is just lame.
here read this: Star Wars Kid: The Interview [originally posted on Jish.nu] i may be wrong, but he doesnt seem to mad about it or anything like that in that interview. i bet his parents are forcing him to do this BS because they are money hungry swine. The kids that did it were friends of his and stuff, you don't sue your friends like this, thats just lame...
And obviously you do?? The article said that this kid's going through psychiatric treatment. I don't disbelieve that. I was a "husky" kid, and some of the stuff that kids say really hurts. I can only imagine how much more it could hurt if millions of people were mocking me. So he got a free computer and a music player--you think that completely erases psychological torture?
I think it has to do with the fact he left high school to enter a psychiatric ward from the level of harrasment and ridicule he receives on a daily basis.
i just think he (or his parents and/or lawyer) are trying to milk it for all they can. i bet this is what happened: the lawyer heard about it and read about it online or something, then contacted the parents and said "hey i can get you big money for this" and they said "ok sure" and the boy is probably thinkin "just leave it alone, i've moved on, its no big deal" i know he's in high school and all, and he probably did get picked on a little bit, but i also know (as i myself am a high schooler) that people forget about stuff like this, quickly. if it werent for this legal action he would have just been like the thousands of people who had a video of them getting kicked in the balls or something shown on americas funniest home videos. yeah everyone woulda had a good laugh, but then they would have forgotten all about it. i stand by my original statement, this is lame.
well dont you think if he were really going through all this emotional stuff this woulda happened a lot sooner...
Personally, I'd be after hide, not money, but since you have little recourse for hide in the civil courts - I'd take money. Someone did this solely to embarass him. Yeah he did something goofy, and followed it up with a couple of not so smart things like leaving the tape laying around. But that does not render benign the malicious acts of his classmates.
I think it's pretty lame too, but I don't know the whole story so I'll refrain from commenting. But from all that I have read, it sounds as though his parents just want some bread.
Except that every single person aired on that television show signed a release OK'ing the tapes to be broadcast.
How do you know he's "over" it? I haven't been in high school for over seven years, and I still remember being made fun of because of my weight. I'm not undergoing any psychological treatment, but my weight problem wasn't mocked by thousands of people on the internet, either. Besides, even if he's not really under psychological trauma, how can you logically conclude that the only other possible reason for the lawsuit is greed? Our society is so exhibitionist and voyeuristic, what's stopping anybody from violating someone else's right to privacy by stealing videotapes and making the material public on the internet? Just imagine if it happened to you. But I'm sure you have a strong enough personality that you would've forgotten about it by now. "What? You mean thousands of internet users are laughing at me? I completely forgot! Guess I was too busy enjoying my free computer."
Oh jeez, this is such a joke. He was dumb enough to leave the tape in the camera. The camera isn't his. Someone found the tape. His fault. This just goes to show how wonderful our legal system is. Some kid is dumb enough to open themself up to humiliation, and blames it on others, and tries to get rich. He already has an iBook and an iPod and $3,000 for his "humiliation" (read: stupidity). It almost makes me want to tape myself acting like a total dork and have some "steal it" and put it on the internet. I'll be rich
i never said i know anything, i was just stating my opinion on what i think happened. noone here knows the real story, therefore arguing about it is pointless, i was just giving my opinion as to what took place. i might be wrong, i might be right who knows. but to sit here and try to be all deep and pschological about it is pointless, i just know how many people in this world are about money and how lawsuit happy people can be, and ive read a lot about the star wars kid, and seeing this shocked me, everything else ive seen didnt give me the feelings he had any hard feelings or anything, in fact thats why so many people donated for him to get that stuff, because they saw he was being a good sport about it. dont take it so personal funkycarnivore! either way neither of us know the real story so its pointless to argue about it anymore, i was just stating my opinions, not saying yours are wrong.
i never said i know anything, i was just stating my opinion on what i think happened. i quote again: What's your opinion of these videos? From what I saw, they look very well-made. It's surprising to see what people have done with a video that wasn't meant to be seen. It's interesting. thats the kind of stuff that makes me think what i think about this whole ordeal, he doesnt seem to distraught there now does he? noone here knows the real story, therefore arguing about it is pointless, i was just giving my opinion as to what took place. i might be wrong, i might be right who knows. but to sit here and try to be all deep and pschological about it is pointless, i just know how many people in this world are about money and how lawsuit happy people can be, and ive read a lot about the star wars kid, and seeing this shocked me, everything else ive seen didnt give me the feelings he had any hard feelings or anything, it was his friends afterall that did this stuff, in fact thats why so many people donated for him to get that stuff, because they saw he was being a good sport about it. dont take it so personal funkycarnivore! either way neither of us know the real story so its pointless to argue about it anymore, i was just stating my opinions, not saying yours are wrong.
It's a slippery slope when you criticize someone's opinion for disagreeing with your own opinion, isn't it? Whether or not the kid has forgotten about what happened (not likely), there are some privacy issues here. And evidently, somebody has found enough grounds for a lawsuit. That's not "good" or "bad"--it's just a fact. What ISN'T a fact is that this kid must be over it and is therefore greedy. Maybe he ISN'T over it, and he's also greedy. Maybe he's just greedy. Or maybe he really wants to fight this on principle. Maybe maybe maybe. What makes your speculation any more admissible than mine?
