Hey Chaps, anyone here ever dropped an aggie pre into a Status bass? The reason i ask is i have a Status S1 Classic (wooden neck with graphite reinforcement) and love it. However, the existing pre is only two band and i would really love to add a mid control and even an active/passive switch. actually, now that i think of it would the active passive switch work with the status pups? any and all help much appreciated!
forgot to mention that the pups are Status-Hyperactive pups - whether this means i wont be able to use them in passive mode is what im hoping someone here willbe able to tell me.
Yep. I always found that funny because they're called "Hyperactive" and all that. I wouldn't do it, personally, as the preamp is one of the main reasons why they sound so awesome.
i thought the OBP-3 was quite a well regarded pre? i mean i do like the tone im getting at the mo but i really want to get a pre with a mid control
oh yeah i know the aggie does -thats why im getting it - however phxlbrmpf was advising against removing the stock pre as he says it is a big part of the status sound... what i was asking was if the aggie would be in any way detremental to the sound even if it did add the mid control
you'll be the first to know when ive done it! im gonna record before and after clips (even with my sucky playing the bass should sound pretty good)
I've not touched the pre in my Status since I got it. No interest in it. However, I like the Aguilars a lot, and if I didn't build my own, that's what I'd use. Unless the Statii pre's have abuilt in EQ curve (when controls flat) I don't see how it can make that much difference.
