LOWER PRICE U$ 1450 or BO shipped and paypal sorry about the cell pics could not find my cam. Now the bass is in South east Florida with me, Palm Beach County FL, i can delivery.
I have one of these, awesome bass. Never played a XL2, but sounds close to a Modulus Q5 to me. HUGE tone monster, solo the neck pu and this thing sounds bigger than life. They have a 18v Haz Lab preamp and the pups are humbuckers. Sustain is unreal, and I've put mine away for 9 months while I was unable to play, and it was in perfect tune when I pulled it back out. For me it goes in the keeper pile bc I know I'd never be able to find something comparable.
The stock Q5 has no preamp, just the active EMGs with passive treble cut. The wood body models (XM, XQ) sound similar to the L/XL but not quite the same...the body does make a difference (I have an L2, had an XM2). Steinberger 5s of any kind are very rare, this one is a good deal.
I used to have one of these. FANTASTIC bass! Believe me when I say, if I could swing it, I'd buy this. Great playability and sound, rare as hens teeth. GLWTS! Oh, and the Velcro is probably to pad that corner when it's standing up. Just a guess.
EMG pickups. 18v preamp, same connectors on the pre and pickups, i would say it is EMG preamp, but could not find anything that says EMG or Hazlab.
lower price $1450 shipped paypal. bass is in South Florida for the next 4 weeks, local in SF i can meet you.
string spacing is probably 17mm at the bridge. iirc, the xq-5 had a spacing at the nut of 1 3/4" and 2 3/4" at the last (24th) fret. 34" scale so there's that in regards to the 'b' string. funny thing was when i used to string up my steinberger xl-2a using 'nashville tuning' back in the 90's, the 'b' string was very usable and not as 'loose' as many basses with a 34" scale tend to have.
