I've just acquired a pre-owned Spirit XT-2. Action's pretty high, and it also looks like the bridge pickup is significantly closer to the strings than the neck pickup. Anyone have any factory setup specs for pickup and string height for a 2 yo XT-2?

Pickup height will depend on several factors. Set up the action first, then tweak the pickups. On the Spirits it is easy because the pickups have springs in them to make adjusting simple. But yes the bridge height is usually higher than the neck due to string range of motion.

To get the sound I wanted, I had to raise the E string side a bit, YMMV.

Thanks. Difference in height between bridge and neck makes total sense. Took it to my local guitar tech who took one look and opined that the truss rod needed some care and feeding and, after he's fixed that, will do a full setup.

Not positive but the truss may be a biflex. I do my own set ups and am going through some issues right now with this little bugger. Overall I really like these and see potential for mine if for nothing else but noodling around with. I do need it set up properly though and this can take some time and trial and error due to the foreign nature of the instrument to myself. Lots of help and opinions here in TB for just about anything Bass.

I got this idea for this here on TalkBass.

One of the best mod I've ever done (if you don't mind drilling an extra screw hole in your bass). Mine is on the other side because I'm a lefty.

I've seen that mod discussed on a number of forums. I have a piece of handily-shaped mild steel ready to go as soon as I get the bass back from the shop. And a handy can of black auto spray paint!

It's still strung as a righty though. Have you always done it that way?

Always. Learned on a standard righty bass, just flipped.
