Hello, I have a Stentor 1950 double bass which I’m looking to sell. I’ve had it for 12 years but it rarely gets played and it’s now more of a bulky ornament taking up space. My wife paid £300 for it but looking online, used basses of this type are up for about £800/£900. It would include bow, case and stand. Any ideas what I could realistically sell this for? Thanks, Neil
From what I can see, the new Stentor 1950 goes for $1750 retail, online. It's advertised as a solid-top student bass with a small body. That's a low price for a hybrid (solid top, plywood back and sides), indicating that it's not particularly great. No idea where it's made. If you see used ones being advertised for 800/900 pounds, are they selling?
I think at Thomann Germany it's 1090€ new: https://www.thomann.de/de/stentor_sr1950_double_bass_student_3_4.htm Maybe that helps in finding the right price for your used one? Edit: oh, and I think these are made in China - there's a Youtube video of and about the factory somewhere out there...
