Sterling by Music Man Ray35, older version with Maple neck, or new with roasted maple neck?

  1. I have a chance to pick up a MusicMan Ray 35, it's the older version with maple neck. Been looking for the newer version with roasted maple neck, is that just cosmetic, or is roasted maple worth holding out for? What's the consensus?

depends on the price of the Ray35, if it's at substantial savings over the newer version, then it might not be a bad buy, nothing wrong with good ol' unroasted maple. Some advantages of a roasted neck, slightly lighter, smoother satin feel to the touch and supposedly more stable, is it worth the extra money, that's up to you to decide.

    This thread might help.
Is roasted necks and fretboards better and worth the extra money?
