I picked up that sweet pearloid pickgaurd used from reverb. It tookto little filing and what not to make it fit. The cutout for the coil switching inspired me to install a split coil pickup. A great choice!

Seriously!!!! I was about to pull the trigger on a Ray5 but with 16.25mm spacing, forget about it...
    I am so disappointed!

I love that narrow spacing. Small frets and narrow spacing is my jam.

Sorry to dig up an old subject. I just bought a used Sterling SUB 5 string and I did the volume mod posted here: Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray4 and Ray5

But unfortunately it made no difference to the non-linear sudden jump in volume, and it seemed to distort the sound, so I reverted back to the original VR and wiring. My EQ board has orange wires in place of the white wires described in this mod, is that why the mod didn’t work? Will I have better luck just swapping the volume VR for a linear one and leave the wiring layout as it is? If so, what’s the rating of the VR (the back is covered in solder)? I think it’s 100k, can anyone confirm? TIA.

UPDATE: SBMM have updated their website, and it looks like the link posted by @tomersg in fact shows the new SBMM SUB. Or rather, it doesn’t, since it seems that SBMM have dropped the SUB name altogether. The new name is the StingRay Ray4, as near as I can make out. So the new name is just as confusing as the old one, but looks nicer on the headstock. The colour is Vintage Sunburst Satin, BTW.

I have to confess I have a soft spot for these basses, even if I don’t play one any more. They’re cracking value and a great introduction to the StingRay universe.

Need something to slap when no one is looking. From GC used. Chinese, no volume knob issue.

I've had a few SUBs and have the same one you have in that pic. I have to say that the Chinese ones are consistently better basses in build quality.
