I have a Sterling by Musicman SUB ray5 in satin Walnut and it's a very nice instrument. I'm thinking of making it into a "project" bass and doing some customization. I was thinking about stripping the finish off the body and use Tru Oil to make a natural wood finish.

Here are my questions. What kind of wood is the body made of? Is the wood grain real or is it simulated using stain? What is the best way to strip the existing finish?

    Thanks
    Todd
