Sterling SB14 sound in a 5 String

    So I have a Sterling SB14 (Musicman Sterling copycat) and I just love how it sounds and feels. I am in a cover band and need a 5 string for most of the gig I also have a Sterling Ray 35, but the sound just isn't there. A little to crisp and high end. I've messed with the EQ for years, and there's just something missing. Is it the preamp? Is it the ceramic vs alnico pickups?

    I can not got a Musicman Sterling 5 in my hands, and can't justify spending over $1,000 with out touching the bass.

    Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
