http://s582.photobucket.com/albums/ss263/Deepwoods_2009/?action=view¤t=100_0385.jpg I am planning on turning this fretless SX into a Steve Harris tribute bass. I have another SX fretted maple neck P-bass coming and I will swap necks. I have a Badass II bridge, 1/4 Pounder p/u, Dunlop straplocks. My question is should I go silver mirrored pickguard like the new Fender Harris or red mirrored like the older Harris P?
Pickguards.com Harris only had a regular mirror, the red (claret) mirror was fender's doing to please. Red and Blue is harris's college colours!
I believe the Red and Blue is for the West Ham United futbol club of which Steve is a fan. I am leaning towards the red but am still undecided.
You're dead right, Steve is a big West Ham fan, and even had a chance to be on their team pro, but chose Iron Maiden instead, as the band was getting to be big at the time. Oh, I much prefer plain mirror on a Steve Harris bass.
The leanings are towards the silver. Being as I trust the taste and guidence of my Talkbass brethren, I will be ordering the silver mirrored p/g. Of course I will post pics when she is full assembled. Thanks all!
Claret and Blue is actually West Ham's colours. It may just be nitpicking, but it will look way better if you had a proper claret colour.
SX is a cheap fender P Actually, I will end up replacing the neck with a Warmoth or Stew Mac when funds allow. When I bought the stock bass it was the cheapest way to get into a decent quality Lake Placid Blue P bass body. I had the Badass II and from another project. Now Fender is offering a LPB/Maple in their standard series which would be the ideal platform for this project.
