stewart world 1.2

    this seems like a really good power amp - looks like i can get it for only a few hundred more than a comparable wattage big PA poweramp.

    what are the drawbacks to it? the only one i can see is that i don't think it has speakon connectors. does it? if not, you can get banana plug - speakon cables, right?

    I've had a Stewart PA-1000 for years now, and its been great. The newer 1.2 is very similar, if not identical to the older PA-1000. Since it has no fan, overheating can be a problem in extremely hot ambient temperatures. You shouldn't mount it next to another heat generating component (another power amp, or really hot pre amp), but I don't think it needs the extra rack space all the time for sufficient cooling. but you should support the rear of the unit, as the aluminum face panel will flex otherwise.

    I don't think the newer model has speakons, just 1/4" and binding posts.
