Stingray 5 colors

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by MrFortuneCookie, Nov 30, 2000.

  1. I'm gettin a Stingray 5 fretless with piezo and all. I have decided on a color for the body and pickguard. BassNW happens to have a bass with the same color scheme, it is fretted, but it does the job for the appearance. Tell me what you think of it, is this the way to go in color?

I think the Sunburst on Stingrays are some of the nicest around. I prefer black or white pickguards though. My Stingray 4 unlined fretless is translucent orange, and I love it. You are going to have one bitchin' fretless.

:))) I have a sunburst with a white pickguard and white pickup cover, but I love the picture with your setup! I found the sunburst(non vintage) to show the most wood grain through the finsh. The "trans" colours were cool, but to Glam for my taste.

Have a groovin time with your new bass!

  4. Beautiful choice.
If I remember well that pic, the bass has black pearloid pickguard, perhaps better in white.

  5. I have 4 string fretted ray in translucent red w/ black p/guard, maple neck!!! she's a beaut!

i plan to get me a lined fretless ray as soon as i can... i think I'm gonna go for natural.

sunburst just doesnt do it for me, at all. I must be the only guy on Earth!

  6. thanks for your opinions. Though one more thing then. Do you think that it would look good with a black perloid pickguard, and better than the tortoise as well?

Van Nuys, Van Nuys. I have a red transluscent, and I swapped out the black pickguard for a tortoise shell one. I just think that big ol' black 'guard looked like a black hole in the middle of the bass. If you were me, you'd keep the 'shell 'guard.

  8. My fretless Stingray 5 with sunburst and a black pickguard looks killer

If I were going to get that beautiful sunburst finish, I'd order it sans pickguard. The SR5's pickguard is just too big. Of course, I'd have to figure out what i was going to do with that big hole in the front of the bass.

  10. When I first read your lines the picture was not available on my screen. I was talking about a lavender solid, incidentally very beautiful color.
    Sunburst is o.k. too.

I wish they made a clear pickguard! I saw an old pixies video and the bass player(the girl from the breaders) has a 4string stingray red with a clear guard. I think that would look good on my sunburst. If they only made one.......

My fav color is sunburst, but i like a darker sunburst (black around rim). I didn't know there were BASSNW's in pennsylvania, i go there all the time, i'm in seattle

  13. there aren't any. It's only in Seatle, but you can order from there.

You should be able to order one somewhere

I know it's not all about looks, but when I was looking for a good 5 for around $1200, the only reason that I kept looking after loving the Stingray 5 was that big ugly pickguard. You can only see about 20% of the top, the rest is plastic.

Of course, if I hadn't kept looking, I wouldn't have found the sweet deal on my Pedulla Rapture J2 5 string a few weeks later, and would have missed out on my perfect 5 under $2000.
