hello fellow bassists. I have noticed my P basses are much easier to get a great tone thru my ampeg ba115 than my stingray. Is it just me or do stingrays sound best with 10 inch speakers. It seems like the BA115 just isn't realy designed to bring out the best tone from the stingray. It seems like it is designed more for passive basses like Passive P or J? my stingray actualy soynds better thru my fender rumble 40 with its 10 inch woofer. Is this normal? My stingray seems to project and has way more punch than my p and j basses. I'm wondering if I should get an amp with 10s in it for my ray or if it's just cuz I'm playing the n my bedroom? When I play my ray thru headphones thru my ampeg or rumble it soynds beautiful. The tone is stellar but when going thru the amps speakers it sounds totaly different. Would the tone of my ray soynd much different several feet out in front of the amp at a bar? Why can't I get a good tone out of my ray thru my ampeg ba115.

Also I'm thinking of getting a GK MB210 or 212.combo as GK seems to bring out highs better than the amprg

I spent more years playing StingRays out of 15's than any other speaker size. Sounded killer.

EQ to the rig in the real world situation, not the livingroom.

In a properly designed cabinet, the diameter of the driver has very little effect on the oeverall sound.
I have a SR and P's and they are hugely different animals.

If you were designing an amp for general sales, what would be the 1st guitar you used to test it out. If it didn't sound good with a p-bass it would be back to the drawing board.

Well Ampegs are generally used in punk and rock, Stingrays are rarely used in punk and rock. It’s mostly P and J basses. The only bassist I can think of off the top of my head who uses a Stingray with an Ampeg is the guy from New Found Glory, but he uses an SVT. I’ve never gotten a Stingray to sound good thru any amp.

  7. Yep my go to cover band rig for years was a SR through an M-Pulse and Mesa PH15's

One of the best recorded punk (well, post punk, post hardcore) tones of all times IMO is ATDI - Relationship of Command. Stingray through Ampeg. Marvellous.

and then Paul was playing a P bass on the reunion tour in 2012  Most guys don't seem to stick to Stingrays. Even Ian from NFG I pointed out has been using a P bass the last 4-5 tours. Flea and Tim from RATM also used Stingrays early on and switched to Jazz basses and then Flea went Modulus.

I said GENERALLY. Sure, you can point out some using a Stingray in punk and rock but its not many at all and its nothing compared to the tons of guys using P and J basses, not even close.

Well, most of the featured bands you see on EBMM videos using their instruments (mostly Stingrays) are those Warped tour pop punk/emo/metalcore/screamo bands, so you'd be able to find plenty. Seriously, check their youtube channel. It's all modern pop punk affair. I'm not personally a fan of those bands, but it is what it is.

It's one of the most used basses in the world. There are THOUSANDS of pro punk and rock bands using Stingrays and most importantly, many of the biggest names in each genre use them. Less than Fender ? Yes, like in all other styles. This says nothing.

When major players like Cliff Williams, Flea and Kim Deal use a Stingray you can't dismiss it as a bass not widely used in rock or metal.

I haven't seen Flea with a Stingray in 20 years and the last few times I saw the Pixies before Kim left, she was playing her P bass the whole set. Anyhow, Im not saying no one uses Stingrays thru Ampeg's, its just not that common. You will probably find 500 guys playing a P or J with an Ampeg for every Stingray and Ampeg combo.

I'm not sure if King Crimson counts as rock, but Tony Levin is a well known user.

The Pbass and the stingray have nothing in common. Two totally different animals. If you feel the Pbass sounds better to you, just stick with it.
The stingray to me is a modern bass with modern tone. Unlike the Pbass.
