Im on the market for a new bass and i just cant decide between a musicman stingray classic or a modulus flea bass (Funk Unlimited). can anyone shed some light on which is a better bass in your opinion? im into funk and slapping and all that. I really like the graphite neck on the modulus basses by the way.

I've owned one and played the other, both are great basses. Wouldn't say one is better than the other. I personally prefer the Stingray by a little, but you are not me so that doesn't mean much. If you like the graphite neck, then the Modulus.

  3. I would personally consider going for the Stingray. It just has that aggressive tone when you pluck harder than usual, and you just can't beat the classics. Sure, the Modulus has the graphite neck, but you can do almost as well with a standard maple neck. Finally, I would think that a good Stingray would hold it's value better than a Modulus.

I have a very early modulus flea, ( lane poor pickup), bartolini preamp. It's killer! I played it against several stingrays when I bought it, and I preferred the modulus. I do like stingrays( especially the 2- band ones) I would say the flea cuts better in a band setting due to the inherently strong low mids, while a stingray has a little more bottom end. The graphite neck is great, it's not prone to being affected by humidity etc, like a wooden neck. Both are great basses though.

  5. The Modulus is a superior bass hands down across the board. Unless of course the Stingray agrees with you more...

I would go Modulus, if only for the graphite neck and the respective Rarity.
