    Well, it's that time again:
It's time to get me a new bass.

Anyway, I'm thinking to myself: Should I get a stingray or a precision bass of similar price?
To put this in perspective, I play in an 80s-style band that does original material, but for comparison, imagine a led zeppelin smashed with AC/DC and you'd get our type of music.

it depends, do you like apples or oranges better?

I like both, and I think that both are good to have...

Haha. It's really two whole different kinds of bass tone dude. You should first assess which bass would sound more to your liking through the mix, including your guitarists' and drummer's gear.

  11. I really like my Stingray. Seems to cut through all the time.

    So +1 on the 'ray.

    I'll have to vote stingray

  13. I play in a similar band and used a fender p for ages before switching to a stingray, love the p but the ray cuts through better (active electronics I suspect).

    U.K.
I'm in P land right now, but I used to use a 'Ray for the kind of music your doing. Either will work fine, but in a slightly different way. As a side, if you go with the P upgrading the tone cap to a Sprague orange drop will make a huge difference, the one on my P tone control gives me a huge range, not just the normal bright or dub.

AC/DC screams P bass to me, and Zeppelin screams Jazz bass, so why not get a PJ and have your basses covered (sorry for the pun)?

I couldn't make up my mind either so here is what I did - I got both! But then I still couldn't pick between the two so I came up with this solution :) (highly recommanded.. just dont place the MM pup so close to the bridge like I did)
