I just spoke to my local Music Man dealer who told me that there will be no more Stingray production this year. The company will focus on signature model guitars like the John Petrucci which bring in more per unit than Stingrays since their production capacity is currently limited.
Just curious as to whether or not he spelled it out. I don't blame them for getting after the bottom line. Times are weird. They gotta do what they gotta do to keep the doors open. Here's hoping things get better for all manufacturing soon.
My Stingray 5 HH was on backorder when I ordered it in March of 2019... pre-pandemic. I didn't get it until August of that year. Couldn't imagine the wait times now.
On a related topic, he told me Taylor’s workforce has been reduced by 2/3, but the company is running three shifts to maintain production levels. They do make some nice acoustic bass guitars.
This will be a nice heads to a lot of folks that are on the fence about getting one. Now might be the time to make that move if anyone is hesitating and can swing it financially. get them while the getting is good so to speak. I know Sweetwater has great financing on them right now. They also have some exclusive fishes like 2 different black sparkles & some blue sparkles . That forest green and snowy white glitter look sweet. BassCentral will make you a great deal and cash is king.
No surprise there. I'm in foodservice and see it every day. Labor shortages due to gov't insensitivation to not work. Raw materials are a problem because every avenue of logistic, import and domestic, are bottlenecked followed by price gouging. Gas at the pump has doubled, ocean freight has quadrupled and I don't see this beginning to smooth until maybe spring of 2022. We'll see. Glad I bought/sold what I needed in 2020.
The good thing is that generally speaking, there are basses available, so buying in one particular brand is a luxury. I have faith the covid strains will end and business can return to normal, even if it is a new normal.
This makes me happy I am not a Stingray junkie (no, I do not dislike MM basses). Bummer to those who do like them. Their finishes have been excellent.
I wonder if the demand for the first years run of Specials will increase due to them being made of ash.
It’s possible, but the Stingray preamp is the secret sauce. My Poplar USA SUB Sterling sounds exactly like an ash Classic Sterling. The Classic just has prettier wood grain.
