This is the best playing Stingray that I've ever owned (and I've owned 8-10 and played dozens). The neck is just magic. She's was made around 99/2000. But being a bit bored with the standard Ray tone, I needed more. Months ago, I did the Aggie MM pup and OBP-3 preamp with active/passive switching and a master tone control (that works in active and passive). I wanted even more options so I just added a Ulyate fat pole P pup (setup the way I prefer it in reverse P mode). The reverse P setup gives the E and A a tighter, less woofy bottom and the D & G a bit more girth. Controls are: Volume / Master Tone stack Balance Mid Treble/Bass stack Active/Passive switch All cavities are copper shielded My good friend and TBer JKDahlman did all of the work. He's the BEST!
Wow, nice work. I dig what you did to that bass. The guy that builds my basses just modded out a Stingray for a client of his. Apparently his client either was endorsed by Music Man or may still possibly be? The guy that builds my basses swapped out the stock pickup and then made the bass have an active/passive mode. He loves the changes and I think is getting ready to have my builder do another one of his Stingrays the same way.
I really dig it. I've been wanting a stingray for a while. This is really pulling at my purse strings.
Im loving mine stock, but wouldn't hesitate to mod it to hell and back if that's what it took. ...I could probably get my guy to do a P style pickup, a new monster humbucker, and switch that two band over to a vol / vol / tone.... HMMM
Ok you've got my attention. Do you find yourself defaulting to any particular setting? I bet this config gives you a ton of flexibility, but have you found a particular sound you really dig?
VERY cool! Did you consider putting the P closer to its regular location (still reverse, but closer to the MM)? I once saw a Pulcinella Level 5 that was P/MM, but it was a 35", so the pickup locations didn't overlap. On a 34", they do, by about 1/4".
Saw this on facebook and meant to comment. Looks cool, would love to hear/see a video. I’ve played a few MM/P style basses (that weren’t MM basses) and I wasn’t a fan. Interested to see how this sounds. And not that you necessarily intend on selling it, but I’m pretty sure you killed the resale value.
This!!! Hell Yes. It's like a PJ combo on steroids. Does it sound like the best of both? How is it with both PUps on full? So many questions.
It's beautiful! How much does it weigh? I sold my stingray. Loved the sound of it, just couldn't play it comfortably.
