Stomp Boxes VS Preamp Racks

    ALright guys, I really don't know the difference between the two, besides the fact that in a stomp box, thats where the effect is, where as in a preamp rack is where the effect is and u hafta buy another channel foot pedal. also, i kno that stomp boxes are generally cheaper than preamp racks.

    so what else are the main differences and which ones better?

    You'll find that there are a lot more high-end preamps in rack form than high-end stomp preamps. That's not to say that there aren't some good ones. Sadowsky, for example, has an extremely well respected outboard preamp.

    Sometimes there is a difference in quality of rack format vs. stomp and sometimes they're identical to each other. Depends on how much you're spending.

    Are you actually talking about preamps in stomp-box form, or effects (like distortion, compression, etc.) in rack-mount form? What is it that you're looking for?
