STRANGE FENDER PRECISION BASS BODY - (WHAT IS THIS??) - HELP!

just wondering if anyone knows anything about what this Strange Fender Precision Bass body is??

it appears to be the factory finish!!

the strange neck pickup had 3 screws holes securing it to the body.... and, there's a battery route! so, it had an active pickup??

can anyone guess the year?

looks like a 3 screw Fender Bridge.... & it has the thumb rest up top!!

The body appears to be ash (from the neck pocket photo) and if it's really a Fender I'll guess mid 70's.

given the depth & size of that route, I'd say this is the special Smuggler's edition

It's a re-finish or a finish but it's not a Fender factory finish. It may have started life as a Fender P-bass - but judging from the overlap of the angled N pu rout past the G sting ~(?)~ who knows what it is or why it exists?
