when i play chords on some basses the note on the E string always seems to completely drown out hte others, yet on some basses i still hear the definition of each note, i assumed this is due to bad string to string blanace, is this true and how can i change it?
  2. I suspect this has more to do with pickup height. If you're playing a "jazz" style bass, try lowering the neck pickup on the "E" side. On a "P", do the same. To check each bass you play, solo the pickup and play the chord. This will tell you which side of which pickup may be too high. The higher you play the chord on the neck, the more it points to the neck pickup being the problem.
