String Gauge for odd tunings

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Masterbasser71, Nov 30, 2004.

  1. Hello,
I would like some help with what kind of gauge of strings I should be using on a Fender Precision and a Fender Jazz Bass.
For my Fender Precision, I have it in standard C-tuning and I have .115, .95, .75, .55 gauges on them and the low string flops way too much, and the others don't hold too well either. So I need to know what gauges from a 5-String Set I should use. Now to make things even weirder, I need help with my Jazz. I have my Jazz Bass with all the Strings flatted: Eb,Ab,Db,Gb but I constantly detune the Eb only to Db. So now my Db string flops I little too. What gauge should my E for the Jazz Bass have? Thanks much.

P.S: I play hard rock and heavy metal on the Precision
and I play funk, heavy metal, and mellow stuff on my Jazz so if you could tell me what material of strings would be good for each. Thanks a lot.....
