I decided to try a set of flats, bought a set of D'Addario ECB81. The bass is 34" scale, & with the old set of Fender strings on it, the start of the silk on the head end of the strings was well past the nut. With these ECB81 strings, the silk starts about 1/4" beyond the nut on the fretboard side. Will this matter as far as play-ability, tuning, intonation, etc.?

    Thanks

Yes. The silk should always clear the nut. Sounds like you may have gotten a medium or short scale set by mistake.

If you put a drop of superglue 1/4" beyond the nut toward the tuner you can cut/burn the silk away and use the strings you bought.

I just bought a set of ECB81's for my American made Fender P-bass (fretless though body). I haven't opened the pack yet. Does anyone know if these will be too short? Thanks.
