    Hey All,

Recently I picked up an early 70's jazz bass that had the string mutes on the ashtray cover. Given this, I installed some flat wounds on the bass and have come to find I really like the tones I get with this configuration. It's very different from my more modern sounding basses but is cool none the same.

I'm wondering if any of you all out there use string mutes and like the results.

I've been meaning to try some out. I'm just gonna cram a sponge under my strings to see if i like it.

Yep, but from what I hear it's the best out there. Used by Marcus Miller, distributed by Fodera, etc.

But is the bass sponge worthy?
