Today I just strung up my Fender MIM Jazz with a new set of Daddario nickel roundwounds, the same gauge I always use. However this time when I started playing I noticed that the A string was rattling around in the nut, and the E string was literally sliding out of the nut toward me as I plucked. I don't know what's up, and I've never done any work on the nut. Help?

Try more windings on the tuning posts to acquire a proper down-angle past the nut.

Are windings going down on the tuner post? They should be, to have proper tension in the nut slots.

Thanks! I just loosened things up, moved it to the bottom and it works fine!
