Is there any advantage (or any difference at all) with string through body on a P- bass if you want to detune to D G C F ?
  2. most people check both STRINGS and BASSES sections of the forum and it's a good idea to not double post/have one reference point for a question.

I'd recommend sticking with this one.

lot's of theories, most accepted is it has more tension on bridge as mentioned before. Haven't noticed a big tone difference or sustain, but claims are made for increased sustain. If there is, it was minimal on my carvin and I didn't find it hitting me like a load of bricks between the two methods of stringing.

It would make a bit of sense that the more severe break angle over the saddle would give you a little cleaner witness point. Especially since the overall tension would be a little lower. Although, in practice, I would expect no noticeable difference either way.
