String-through or no?

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by bassteban, Mar 11, 2005.

  1. My Stambaugh 6 came w/nickel Foderas(I was after the vintage tone), strung through-the-body. It's long past time for new strings- I broke the A at the beginning of a worship set Sunday. Talk about distracting! I'm broke & put some old stainless Ken Smith's on. They were not long enough to go string-through, & they have a much lower(apparent)tension, which I like- as well as the tone. I'm planning on putting KS's on, I just wondered what you guys think- will stringing through-the-body result in higher tension?
I have never noticed a tonal difference- not saying there isn't one, I'm just not catching it. I'm curious about feel.
