String Tree?

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by superbassman2000, Apr 22, 2006.

  1. Hi everybody!

I was just wondering what exactly the string tree did...does it decrease any tension? does it help in any way?

For what I know, a string tree is used to force strings to sit in the nut when the headstock is not angled back.

Yup, that's about it. Without the string tree, the strings could hop out of the nut and create a nasty rattling sound.

Its just to give the strings the proper break angle over the nut of a one piece fender style neck.

  5. ok, thanks for the info!

  6. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to different types of string trees?
