From your experiences, what types of strings are tougher on frets? Which are more gentle?

I am particularly interested in the D'Addario Prisms. Have any of you had experience with these? How hard are they on your frets?

This is a very broad question. As far as round wound strings are concerned, Stainless Steel is the hardest. Nickelplated Steel is next followed by Pure Nickel. The Prisms you are intersted in are Stainless Steel, so yes, they are fairly abrasive. IMO, tone is first priority. I prefer Stainless Steel (DR Lo-Riders) even though they are generally more abrasive. How hard you fret is also a factor. Stainless Steel is usually brighter and longer lasting than Nickel/Nickelplated Steel IMO.
