Strings for Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by jvalenzh, Jul 20, 2013.

  1. Hello,

Any suggestions for strings for the Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V? It came with Fender 8250-5M NPS. I like them, but just wondering if anyone thinks there are better ones for that bass. Or should I just stick with those? Thanks!

Also, any tips on cleaning these? (alcohol, boiling?)

    Thanks,

    Javier.

I have a deluxe 4 that had ernie balls on it and it sounded ok but then I put infeld superalloys and it sounds amazing now! the lows are nice and deep the mids growl and the highs ring....they arent like most rounds where the mids are missing or the boom is missing they seem to have it all....a little rough on the fingers but worth it for the sound.
You can get the best action on those deluxe basses! They are so nice to play! I love mine so much I only use it once in a while! Its a bass I want to keep forever!
    what color did you get?

  3. Nice, thanks! I got the Olympic white with rosewood fretboard and black pick guard. And you?

Mines the trans wine. I think they all have black pick gaurds. I think those might be the nicest fenders ever made! Enjoy!

I have 7 basses and tried all different strings. I found that the $20 strings are always missing something. One has lots of growl and no bottom. Rotosound. One has boom and not much mids. Boomers. The superalloys are twice the money but kinda have it all. And last a long time. I haven't tried the other thomastik stuff yet but for the money they want I am sure they are good.

  5. Thanks for the tip. Any superalloy string model in particular that you like?

    Hi!

Do you guys string through the body or top-load (through back of bridge)?

I always go through the body.....when I can!

  10. I have a 2004 AM DLX Jazz 5 string, and absolutely loved the feel and tone from the old-style 8250 5M sets. Recently I changed out the old set for the new-style Fender 8250 5M. First thing I noticed is the taper on the B and E string is too close to the ball-end and prevents stringing both through the body. I'm at a complete loss to explain how these Fender strings with the same SKU won't fit a Fender bass. I ran the B and E through the bridge to compensate for the shorter taper.

They feel stiffer than the vintage set. The E sounds dull. What a disappointment.

For those of you seeking a replacement set that actually fits, I just received a set of Ken Smith strings: BBM-5TC. The dimensions of the Ken Smith set match perfectly the vintage set of the 8250 5M strings. And they have silk wrapped ends. I have not installed them yet, so cannot comment on the tone.

    Hope this helps!

??? I have the same strings you are talking about on my 2013 Am Dlx V (tapered E and B), strung through the body just fine....

  12. Update: I just received a new set of the Fender 8250 5M strings.
The length of the taper on the B and E strings to the ball-end is 2 1/4". This is proper for thru-the-body stringing.

The taper length of the set currently installed on my bass measures only 1 7/8". (This set was purchased a couple of years ago)

So the mystery is solved. Fender's supplier did correct the taper length issue at some point. Players may encounter this same problem if they purchase old stock.

Now if only they would silk-wrap the ends again ....

Ah, so that's what it was. These strings are very underrated; for the money I don't know why they aren't more popular.
