    My Fender Jazz Bass Special ´87 needs new strings. I like a fat and also funky sound. What kind of string should I buy? Does anybody have good suggestions?

    Thanks for your advices.

    Hey there, you would probably get good suggestions if you;
    filled out your profile
    told us a little more about what kind of music you're into.
    There are SO many choices out there, it can be very difficult to answer otherwise.

    i've been searching for years and i've found my strings. DR "FAT BEAMS" . i used to play the marcus miller dr because i played a lot of funk, but the fat beams on a fender jazz bass.....ohhhhhh...
    i play an active deluxe american but i've also played them on poplar mexican jazz basses. do yourself a favor and buy just one pair. you'll fall in love.
    and no i'm not a DR rep. i think DR makes good bass strings but the rest of their line, especially for guitars, are, well crap(IMO)

    good luck!

    I have the same bass- and there's not that many around. (obviously an elite club.) All kidding aside, the strings that have worked the best for me on this bass are D'addario XL 170 nickels. 45-65-80-100. However, I am not much of a funkster and generally play rock or fusion. This medium light gauge is a bit light for many players, but it works for me.
