Strings for Lakland Bob Glaub

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by StreamerDavid, Sep 14, 2008.

  1. I've been using some DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams on this bass and it's just too bright. Anybody have any suggestions? I'm guessing old strings are the best.

  2. Dr black beauties, Geezer style.

Mine is a USA Glaub with a Jazz neck.
It's awesome. I have Sadowksy Flats on it right now.
    Enjoy!

Flats, eat fried chicken before you practice every time, or check out some nickel plated strings.

I currently have Dr Hi-Beams on mine right now. I like them better than the stock Lakland strings. Very nice piano tone when used with a pick.

I think I might try a set of low beams after that, or just go straight to some flats.

    Enjoy the bass!

How much less bright do you want?

DR Sunbeams are round core like your Fat Beams, but are nickel instead of steel. They would be warmer and less bright, and have exactly (or close to exactly) the same feel.

    TI-JF-344,
    Ken Smith compressors
    DR-Sunbeams

    Three different type strings.
All sound great on a "Glaub"

    TI's- fat, warm, big.
Compressors- warm, brighter than the TI's, smooth.
DR-Sunbeams- warm, ever, good mids, bright, but no to bright.

I presently have my USA Glaub strung with LaBella Hard Rockin Steels 45 - 105...
that bass sounds great with every string I have tried...

I love DR nickel Low-Riders on my Glaub.

Use DR Sunbeams on my Lakland DJ4 and adore them, Ill have to try some on the Glaub to compare. Though I use Lo-Riders on it because of the higher tension.

You can't loose with DR strings IMO
