I just got my roscoe beck in the mail. I bought my usual fender superbass strings. These are not long enough to go be loaded through the back . I bought a set of dr lowbeams and same thing happened. Before I waste more money, what strings can I use?I play metal and rock. Thanks
You need to ask for "Super Longs" - the best I used were D'Addario Slowounds - noticably better sound than anything else. There is a problem with RB5s though, that is known about by Fender and is one of the reasons I started visiting forums like this one. So - when they spray the paint for the finish, some of it gets in the holes that go through the body for the strings. On mine (and others I learned) the paint had built up to be so thick that I couldn't get a B string through. But there is a very simple fix - just use a small screwdriver and scrape away the paint on the side of the hole for the B string on the inside of the body - being careful of course not to scratch the finish on the outside!! Seriously it is very easy to do and before I could get no B strings to fit through, but after it was easy!
I have a Roscoe Beck also and I have never had that problem. If you keep having that problem just string it thru the bridge. I have done it both way's just to see if there was a difference, I must say there was none that I could tell. I have strung T.I's, Dean Markey's, High beams all thru the body.
Thanks guys. I just got some fender superbass longscales that even say in the desciption they are ment to fit in the through body basses. The problem with the other strings is the black string windings on the end of strings starts to early and rests on the nut. The new strings work great. Thanks again
