Strings on an SX Bass

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by r6mile, Mar 12, 2006.

  1. I am a complete noob in basses so I have absolutely no idea. How are the strings on an SX Bass compared to others? Would it be worth changing them?

The stock strings suck! Change them.

Absolutely change them. Some of the Rondo descriptions claim they are strung with DAddarios, but, I use DAddarios, and every SX that has passed through my hands had strings that bore no resemblance to real, production DAddarios.

Change em. You'll get a bump in tone and feel.
  4. OK thanks. Can you recommend my a specific brand?
  5. I would really like to try some really thick strings, but I wonder if my fingers are ready for that. I've been playing for 8 months, what kind of strings do u think my fingers will be able to stand?

    DAddario. :) [That's what I use.]

Really, you have to find your own way on string choices. You'll find a million valid opinions here. It's a very subjective thing. It would be like me telling you what the correct color shirt was to wear. :)

Choose a set with the E being 100 or 105 and you'll be fine.

They are probably D'Addario seconds or rejects. :spit:
  9. Thanks, I think I am going to buy some D'Addarios (also, I friend of mine has them and he told me they're fantastic). I was looking for a Medium/Heavy kind of strings, and I found these sets:

    D'Addario EXL160 http://www.daddario.com/DADProdDetail.aspx?CodaID=633&ID=3&Class=ACBA
    D'Addario EXL230 http://www.daddario.com/DADProdDetail.aspx?CodaID=654&ID=3&Class=ACBA
    D'Addario EPS160 http://www.daddario.com/DADProdDetail.aspx?CodaID=1103&ID=3&Class=ACGA
    D'Addario EPS230 http://www.daddario.com/DADProdDetail.aspx?CodaID=1084&ID=3&Class=ACGA

The question now is: What are the differences between Nickel Wound and Pro Steels? Is there a noticeable difference (in sound and in touch) between Medium and a Heavy wage?

I got a new SX not long ago, and it had some pretty nice flatwounds on it, not sure what brand they are.
  11. Stainless steel strings are going to be rougher and have a more metallic (bright...zing...) sound while nickels have a warmer sound.
  12. OK Thanks. I think I'm going to buy the D'Addario EXL160.
