strumming....an odd subject u see bassists from Blink 182 and Linkin Park strumming the hell out of thier basses. It does look relly good i mean i can do it on te bottom string (E) but i have trouble on te other i mean i get residual noise. What do they do i mean do they mute the rest of the strings and strum that one? if they do i dont understand why as it that takes a lot more though power away from pulling the righ notes, know what i mean?

  2. It might look "cool", but if it doesn't function, there's no point. Don't put form over function. Just try to hit the right notes, it will sound cleaner and you won't look like you suck!

Let me guess, youve seen them playing like that on videos, where they dont have to really play?

I think you will find that Top Of The Pops is mimed. Sometimes the singing will be live. Did you see Blink 182 play on the MTV awards?

  7. i dont think they do it as a 'strum', but more or less flailing your arm like a jacka$$. just requires hitting the string then quickly pulling up to avoid contact with the other 3(or 5, in my case) strings during your follow through. i myself wouldnt be caught dead doing this, just a waste of valuable groove time, not to mention energy, which is required for long shows...

strumming only sounds good on the strings 1+2. Blink have some better bass lines in their earlier stuff, but i agree- the newer stuff isn't that good.

i remember seeing on TOTP2 a really old clip of the Clash, paul simonon was playing bass and trumpet!!

didn't they pass some sort fo law that top of the pops had to be live and no one was allowed to mime anymore or am i just being naive?>?

alot of the bands on totp have pre-recorded backing tracks and live vocals, but they have more live bands now.

anyone seen nirvana 'play' smells like teen spirit on totp?

they were p.o. about having to mime playing, so they messed it up, and grohl hardly hit the drums, and kurt never even touched his guitar until halfway throught the video.
    very funny.
