I've played both basses, and they were both wonderful instruments, both in sound, aesthetics (well, the Spector one upped in this one, such deep finishes), and playability.

The thing is, they're different in all categories, but I like them the same. Tonally, the G&L is the best of Leo's brainchildren, on steroids. Wonderful, classic tones, from P to MM to a really fat J (varied as it is, HB's just can't quite nail the SC sound.)

The Spector was superbly modern, with a great bark to it, very bright, and a good EQ.

The Trib played like a 'ray, fat and comfy, and the Spector like a Soundgear crossed with a Jazz, smooooth and faaaaast.

The Trib has classic vibes (who doesn't like a 3 tone sunburst on a classic Leo body?), the Spector has new school spitfire (who doesn't like the NS design with quilted black cherry top?).

I'm stuck TB, between the tried and true and bright and brash. HELP!

Also, the price for both is pretty equal.

What are playing now? As mentioned in your post the necks are completely different on those two models (one fat one thin). Personally I would go with the one that feels the best. If sound was that much of an issue and you liked the thinner neck, there are plenty of other options out there (Geddy Lee, Yamaha, Ibanez etc....).

I have a cheap Soundgear. Either a larger neck or thin is fine, I can adjust quite well.

  4. About the only thing that i can think of, is to reccomend you play up the same chops on both basses, and pick the one you're most comfortable with. Then, save up for the other.

Here is what you do.... write both names on a peace of paper 10 times for each one. Cut each one out and fold it and put it in a hat. Shake the hat until one flys out. Do that all the way up untill 11. Unfold each one of them and the one with the most at the end wins..
If not happy with out come do a best 2 out of 3.

Or you can flip a coin,

And yes i'm sad I have done this before. :scowl: What else am I going to do at work? Work bwahhahahahahah. :D

Hmm...I have a pretty strong dislike for both of those brands...:p

But if I had to pick, I'd say G&L. It has the more classic/vintage-y tones, and, in my opinion, better looks.

I think I'm going for the Trib, but I'll play with the Legend just to be sure. I'm going to GC, so, yeah...
