    hey guys,
    i'm new to this forum.

    i'm 16 and from NewZealand.

i've been interested in getting a double bass for some time now.
in a week or so i'm planning on getting lessons at school from Alberto santeralli,
(i have no idea if you guys have heard of him or not) and as i improve i hope to use it in my church band.
    but!
i am yet to purchase a double bass.
it's my birthday soonish, so i figure that's an excuse to get one.
I think i'll end up with a student double bass because they are cheaper.
maybe in the years to come, if i'm still hard at it, i'll move on to a more expensive one.
apart from the fact that double basses are big...
i hardly know anything about them.
i was wondering what you guys know about student double basses?
do any of you have them?
what's the differences between a student bass and a regular bass?

    thanks.

Your best bet is to look in the "newbie links" at the top of each section. You will find a wealth of information there! There are many double basses for sale now. Some are decent, and some you really want to stay away from. Look through the links, and if you can't find anything that helps just ask!

    thanks mate.
i've checked some of those newbie links out.

the thing is, i already know where i'll get it from.
i dont think i'll be doing any internet buying this time.
i know of places near me that have D basses for sale.
and i'll probably end up getting a student one, made of plywood?
i think they're made of plywood...

but i was just wondering what you guys know about student double basses.
and if they are still good to learn on.

i talked to Mr Santeralli today, and i'm getting lessons at school next tuesday.
    FUN FUN!!

apparently i have to learn how to bow it first.
before i get into the plucking.

    but yeah....
