Well, i've never been to a studio before. I was just wondering if people go to the studio just to rehearse. Let's say that a group can't play at home because of complaints from neighbors (NOT US, just hypothetically haha), do people use studios for rehearsal. Cause i know they record in the studio, but let's say you just need a place to practice, do studios offer this? if they do, is the rate cheaper than recording?
That seems like it'd get expensive pretty damn quickly. If you don't rehearse at home, there are generally places you can rent to rehearse.
They have rehearsal spaces specifically built for this purpose. A lot of them are tied to an associated studio (like Cherry Beach here in Toronto), but that's not a rule. Google "rehearsal studio <your city>", or jump on Craigslist and look under Office/Commercial housing - there's usually a couple ads in there for rehearsal studios for rent.
They might give you a cheaper rate if there was a gap in the schedule with no one booking recording time, but it would probably be a lot cheaper to rent rehearsal space somewhere. Plus you'd be able to store gear at a rehearsal space, which you wouldn't get to do at a studio.
I go here:http://www.rehearse.com/sacto88/ You might want to wield the mighty Google gun and see what comes up like this:http://www.hothousestudios.com/. I prefer rehearsing in studio, but it takes a while to get up to the level where you can afford to rent the place. Alot of places ofer both services or just one or the other
