    here's a summary posted on the site:

    it certainly makes sense to me, offering people money to do nothing other than take drugs is a huge incentive to lie when your only other alternative for cash is to work like the rest of us. In addition, there's really no way to currently tell if somebody is suffering from mental disorders other than asking them. I recall a journal article I read in my psych class in college about some (perfectly sane) doctors who got themselves trapped in a mental hospital because they told the evaluators that they were hearing voices. Case in point, it's easy to cheat the system.

    There are unfortunate things occurring at all levels in all sectors of business to varying degrees. There are multiple stages of approval that have to go on from independent groups for drug trials to go on- so if we analyze this even at the most superficial level, it's not like the drug companies are the sole ones to blame. But they are the easiest to target.

    Before the whole "big pharma" thing comes up, they're also the only ones spending billions of dollars on research to come up with a single drug that might save your sister. So they're worth keeping around.
