Subwoofer question

Discussion in 'Live Sound [BG]' started by Medford Bassman, Jun 30, 2008.

  1. Sorry for the stupid question. The band recently acquired subs. This is the first time in 30 years i am responsible for sound.
I have a crossover as well. I plan on sending a signal from my mixer to the crossover, to the power amp and then to the subs.
What frequency threshhold should I set the crossover to maximize the signal to the subs?

It may be a lame question, but I'd could really use some help. Thanks.

What kind of subs? You will probably want to set it around 100hz.

Bill Fitzmaurice recently suggested 80 hz, and since he's the big audio guy around here, I tend to believe him ;)

  4. There older EV subs with 2 folded 15" in each

  5. Thank you for the help, i will try it!!!

it depends on your top cabs also...
if you have 12's and a horn for tops, you might want to try setting the x-over as high as 125hz. if you have 15's in the tops, you may want to go as low as 80hz. i'd suggest checking out what the freq. response specs of your tops are and making that part of the equation.
trust your ears, too... try a few settings out, see what sounds best.
