I'm looking to add a digital delay to one of my boards. Must have features: Tap or strum tempo, single pedal form factor. Bonuses: Reverse, presets, modulation, looper, and/or subdivisions.

I love the DL8, but its tap tempo feature is almost useless. If I needed tap tempo I would want a dedicated switch for it.

Headrush is too big for the space allotted unfortunately.

There are a few delays with top jacks out there that will take the same space than your regular mxr sized box with side jacks. Way huge , Strymon, Trex, wampler..

Of those the strymon brigadier is the only one that interests me. It would be a pretty tight fit on the board and I honestly want a digital sounding delay in that spot. I had a BBD on the board before and actually prefer digital tone/versitility for the purpose of this board. I also don't want to drop a ton of $ on this one because it won't be used a great deal on this board.
I'm also building a mad professor deep blue with tap tempo/subdivisions and top jacks in a 1590bb and think it will still be just a bit big for the spot.

Hence the selection in the poll...

TC Repeater - awesome, simple and filled with goodies.

Strymon Timeline. I have had it both with TC Flashback. But, after all, i has swapped TC for OCD. Flashback is very good, but there was no self-oscilation in there... Very nice, but Timeline is ULTIMATE.

Tv nova and timeline are simply too big for the hole I'm filling on my board.

Line 6 M5 has some great delay sounds for cheap but it's 2x sized. Haven't played the Zoom single form factor but I heard good things about that one too. I have a Flashback but always end up using the M5. The nice thing about looking for a digital delay is that all of the modeler pedals out there do an excellent job on digi delay models. Just don't use the distortions. :)

There are delay Toneprints for the Flashback that will self oscillate.

I still think that Flashback is a weapon of choice for - size, versatility, quality and price. Timeline is just a next step... If you want MORE and PRESETS...

Flashback didn't do it for me because of the lack of tap tempo (strum tempo was completely unusable live for me) so my next step was TC Repeater which is simply awesome and does everything but self oscilate which I can go without. If I were to go smaller footprint, I'd probably get a Boss DD7 with an external tap tempo switch.

Yeah, I'm leaning in that direction. Especially because I have a dual tap tempo (1590a) that I built that I can fit elsewhere on the board.

  15. Flashback X4 is nice is you have the space. It has tap tempo and Toneprints, and three presets you can preset. I love mine.

The boss DD-7 is great, lots of features and great quality.

  17. I just got the TC Flashback delay, and I'm quite pleased. It has everything you mentioned plus the TC toneprint technology.

I went with the TC because I liked their Vortex flanger I got a while back - they both sound very digital with some extreme range. Beautiful sounding IMO.

9 types of delay, 20/40 sec loop.

My DD7 has done everything ive wanted it to do. There are so many options to it that I feel kind of limitless with my playing ability with it.

  19. I think Boss really kills it with digital delays, and the DD-7 is the king of the bunch

To buy right now I would go with TC Flashback either normal or Triple if you have space. They are simple to use but the tone print editor makes them very versatile.

If you can wait, sometime this week SourceAudio will announce their new Delay that promises to be full featured (maybe more that TC) and, by the looks of their recent announcements, also small and simple interface.
