Just picked up one of these affordably-priced 5 string fretless jazz basses. It's a nice bang for the buck, $150 plus shipping! The neck seems very stable, and the setup is very good. I actually had to raise the action slightly. The quality and finish of the neck and body is very good.

Has anyone already tried modifying one of these basses with pickup, bridge, pickguard, preamp or hardware upgrades? just looking for some ideas for kicks.

already checked the Essex Megathread (Boy, is it a pain trying to find something specific in a megathread even with the advanced search function). Thanks in advance for your comments.

I've had a set of these on my Jazz 5 copy and it sounded exactly my Fender '62 custom shop pickup. I only sold the bass cause I couldn't get used to the 16mm string spacing :crying:

    Plus series-parallel and volume-blend :hyper:

How about a jaco tone on a 5'er??? :bassist:

    Great job PC!

Did those pick ups make a big diff in tone?

Did you have to route the pickup wells, or did they just drop in?
